Do Carpet Beetles Larvae Bite

Carpet beetle larvae don t bite but some people do experience carpet beetle dermatitis from physical contact with the hair like bristles of a carpet beetle larvae.

However carpet beetle larvae do feed on fabrics. In general these are black or dark reddish brown in color. Their body length measures about 3 5 mm and it is covered in minute hair. The males differ from the females in their antennae with the former having longer antennae.

They re scavengers which means they feed mostly on dead animal products or other debris. Carpet beetle larvae are about 12 mm or more in length and are characterized by presence of hair tuff. The grown beetles don t bite and their larvae don t bite either. Adult carpet beetles do not bite and in fact do not feed on fabrics.

This is usually shows as a red rash or small red bumps. Since adults feed on plant pollen and nectar located outdoors they are not equipped with mandibles teeth that are sufficiently designed to pierce the skin via a bite. Hence the name carpet beetle. Adult carpet beetles do not bite or even eat up fabrics however there larvae form isn t as courteous.

They simply don t bite humans. Carpet beetles don t bite humans.
